BAS Accountant
Come and join a team where great work, genuine relationships, and career growth all matter. Apply now!
Grow your career, build trusted client relationships, and enjoy work that fits your life.
We’re looking for confident and curious Accountants to join our friendly Taranaki BAS team. This is a role for someone who enjoys getting behind the numbers, building strong relationships with clients, and providing practical advice that helps businesses make informed decisions and grow with confidence.
About the roles
We have two BAS Accountant positions available, however for the right candidates we'd be open to taking more than this.
As an experienced BAS Accountant, you’ll take ownership of a varied client portfolio and work closely with business owners, directors, and internal specialists to deliver quality accounting, compliance, and advisory support. You’ll have the opportunity to shape your workflow, contribute to meaningful client outcomes, and be part of a collaborative team that values initiative, quality, and genuine connection.
This is a permanent full‑time role, (37.5 hours per week, across Monday to Friday), based out of our New Plymouth office. However, we are open to flexibility for the right person.
The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $85,000 per annum. Remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
What you’ll be doing
Preparing and reviewing financial statements, income tax returns, GST returns, and other compliance work for a range of clients.
Building trusted relationships with clients and taking the time to understand their businesses, goals, and challenges.
Providing practical business advisory support, including budgeting, forecasting, cashflow planning, and management reporting.
Working with clients to identify opportunities, solve problems, and improve financial visibility.
Supporting and mentoring junior team members by sharing knowledge and reviewing work.
Collaborating with directors and colleagues across the firm on client projects and specialist advisory work.
Using accounting software and reporting tools to deliver efficient, accurate, and value-add client solutions.
About you
You’ll thrive in this role if you enjoy variety, take pride in producing high-quality work, and genuinely care about helping clients succeed. You’ll be someone who is organised, approachable, and confident communicating with different people — from business owners to team members who are still developing their skills.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
Have 8 years + working in a CA firm or similar professional services environment.
A CA qualification or similar.
Confidence preparing financial statements and tax returns from start to finish.
Experience with accounting platforms such as Xero, MYOB, or similar systems.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build lasting client relationships.
A curious mindset, attention to detail, and a practical approach to problem-solving.
An interest in mentoring others and contributing positively to a supportive team culture.
Why join us?
At Baker Tilly Staples Rodway Taranaki, we offer the best of both worlds: the connection and agility of a locally owned firm, backed by the strength, resources, and opportunities of a national and international network. Our team is big enough to work on meaningful client projects, but small enough to know each other well and support one another.
You’ll be joining a workplace that values family, respect, quality, and passion — and where people are encouraged to grow in a way that works for their strengths and career goals.
Our benefits include flexibility to structure your day, ongoing learning and development, income protection, discounted health insurance, extra Baker Tilly statutory holidays, an active social club, and a genuinely supportive team environment.
Life in Taranaki
With offices in New Plymouth and Stratford, our team enjoys working in a region where career opportunities, community connection, and lifestyle go hand in hand. Whether you’re into the coast, the mountain, local sport, family time, or simply having more balance in your week, Taranaki is a great place to build both your career and your life.
