Taitara Mahi - Wastewater Manager/ Asset Manager

Hastings District Council, is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Wastewater Manager to lead the strategic development and delivery of wastewater services across our district. This is a key leadership role within our talented Three Waters team, offering the opportunity to shape long-term infrastructure outcomes that support our community, environment, and future growth.
With our current manager stepping into a new opportunity, we’re looking for a dynamic individual who is passionate about wastewater, the taiao, and community outcomes.
Mō te tūranga - about the role
As Wastewater Manager, you will be responsible for the planning, performance, and development of Council’s wastewater assets and services ensuring they not only uphold Council standards but also deliver meaningful benefits to our communities. You’ll be instrumental in shaping and executing forward-thinking strategies that address pressing issues such as climate change, water quality, growth, and cyclone recovery, guiding our wastewater services into a resilient and sustainable future.

Ōu wheako – About you
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A relevant qualification (minimum NZCE or Asset Management Diploma; ideally BE Civil), or be working towards one
- Proven experience in managing wastewater services, including strategic planning, asset and financial management, urban drainage, and contract/project management
- Strong knowledge of municipal and trade waste systems, environmental engineering, the RMA and relevant legal and regulatory frameworks
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical and financial information clearly
- Demonstrated strategic leadership, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making capabilities
- A commitment to continuous improvement, customer service, and community outcomes
